# Visual Identity

**Visual Identity**

These guidelines define the visual elements that shape the university’s brand. They help ensure consistency, clarity and recognition across all university communications.

- **Logos** — The University of Maryland logo is the primary element of our institution's visual identity. <https://brand.umd.edu/visual-identity/logos>
- **Colors** — Inspired by the Maryland flag, our colors reflect our role as the state’s flagship university. <https://brand.umd.edu/visual-identity/colors>
- **Typography** — These typefaces represent the core institutional brand and are required for consistency. <https://brand.umd.edu/visual-identity/typography>

### Brand Governance

The Office of Marketing and Communications oversees the management and protection of the Maryland brand, including its guidelines, visual identity and enforcement of brand standards. OMC is committed to fostering a positive culture of brand governance across campus, and it is the responsibility of the campus community to serve as dedicated stewards of the brand.

Questions about enforcement? Contact your unit’s marketing and communications lead or email <marylandbrand@umd.edu>.

**Campaigns & Special Initiatives** — Some campuswide marketing and communications efforts have a complementary, but separate visual identity. Use these style guides to understand when, where and how to apply them. <https://brand.umd.edu/brand-platform/campaigns-initiatives>
