Brand Checklists
New to the university? Launching a new campaign or initiative? Before you get started, review these checklists.
New Staff
Welcome and congratulations on being one of the university’s newest brand ambassadors! Don’t forget to:
Add an email signature using the approved format.
Choose one font and use a professional color such as black or dark gray. Including the pronouns you wish to be referred to by is encouraged. Here's how to use pronouns appropriately.
All lines in the signature are optional. Please refrain, however, from including philosophical statements or quotations or images, such as the university logo.

Note the university’s name.
We refer to ourselves as the University of Maryland. On subsequent references, use Maryland, UMD or the university, or Terrapins or Terps. The use of U-MD, UM and U of M is prohibited. The University of Maryland, College Park (and UMCP on secondary references) is used only when referring also to other schools in the University System of Maryland.

Add some Maryland gear to your closet.
Reach out to your unit’s marketing and communications team, visit the bookstore in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union (UMD employees receive a discount on in-store purchases) or shop with a licensed vendor to grab your branded apparel and accessories.

New Campaigns & Initiatives
Check off these tasks to ensure a smooth launch for your next marketing and communications campaign.
Design & Copy
- The correct colors, fonts and typography are used according to our visual identity.
- All copy has been proofread and uses university style, as outlined in the Editorial Style Guide.
- You have usage rights for images and the appropriate completed photo releases for each subject.
Logos
- The logo you’re using is approved by OMC.
- The appropriate logo type (tier 1, tier 2, etc.) is used across all assets.
Website
- The URL is active, spelled correctly and loads properly across all devices.
- Google Analytics and/or Tag Manager has been installed and your new web property has been added to the university’s master account. Email marketing@umd.edu for assistance.
